Benthos · Scientific viewer for georeferenced video
PaidScience and dataEvery frame on the map
Benthos ties video from a moving camera to the place it was filmed. The footage plays in sync with its track on the map, the 3D terrain and the depth profile.
Benthos viewer with dive SIM-041 · T3 from the public demo: an ROV covers 25 metres of a coral mound in the North Atlantic, between 780.9 and 786.3 metres deep, in 1 minute and 15 seconds of video.
The map draws the track coloured by depth, on the Cividis scale, over the seabed relief and its isobaths every half metre. It has six annotations: a stretch of sediment plain, an area of coral rubble and four points, with a live colony of Desmophyllum pertusum, two Callogorgia verticillata fans, a dead octocoral and a Cidaris cidaris sea urchin.
The data card gives the depth, heading, speed, dive time, temperature, battery and position at the current moment of the video. The dive profile shows depth over time, with the ROV's stops and the annotations. The annotations on the map, the profile and the video bar take the video to that moment.
